MISSION:
To address climate change by investing in New Mexico projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate impacts, and energy cost burdens, prioritizing underserved communities
Climate Change and Equity
The need for increased investment in underserved communities has never been more urgent. As our climate continues to change, rising temperatures, more frequent and severe storms, and prolonged droughts are placing increasing burdens on households and businesses with the fewest resources to prepare for and adapt to these challenges. At the same time, the transition to a cleaner, lower-carbon economy presents an opportunity to strengthen local economies, reduce energy costs, and expand economic opportunity for the communities that need it most.
Today, many underserved households and communities continue to face barriers to accessing affordable financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate resilience improvements. By providing flexible financing with affordable terms and competitive interest rates, these households can invest in safer, healthier, and more comfortable homes while reducing utility costs and building long-term financial stability.
Investment Focus
The New Mexico Climate Investment Center is building a portfolio of financing solutions for residential, commercial, and community-based projects that accelerate the adoption of proven, market-ready technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen climate resilience. Our investment strategy focuses on:
- Expanding access to capital by closing financing gaps and strengthening the ability of financial institutions to serve borrowers who have historically faced barriers to affordable financing.
- Delivering meaningful economic, environmental, and community benefits to underserved communities across New Mexico.
- Reducing energy costs and improving quality of life by financing energy efficiency upgrades, rooftop solar, community solar, building retrofits, electrification, and other clean energy solutions that create healthier, more resilient homes and businesses.
